Industry sources in Taiwan speculate that several major NAND flash producers have stopped offering or reduced their output of 16Gb NAND flash, resulting in a recent rally in prices of the chip.
The chip vendors plan to shift their focus to 32Gb and higher-density products, in an attempt to push up the industry's mainstream density, the sources indicated.
Late July contract prices for 16Gb multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash chips edged up 0-3% to average US$4.10, while the 32Gb segment slid 0.3% to US$6.44.
