Compal Electronics expects ODM shipments of notebooks, smartphones, tablets and LCD TVs in total to increase 25% on year in 2015, company president Ray Chen said at a November 13 investors conference.

For notebooks alone, shipments in the fourth quarter of 2014 will decrease sequentially by about 5% and those in 2015 will remain unchanged or slip on year by 2-3%, Chen said. Currently, 40% of notebook shipments are business-use models and 60% consumer ones, Chen noted. For LCD TVs, Compal expects shipments in 2015 to rise on year by 20-30%, Chen said.

Due to increased orders from existing clients and orders from new clients, shipments of smartphones and tablets together in the fourth quarter will be double those in the third, Chen indicated.

Compal started server shipments in small volumes to ODM clients in the third quarter and expects to begin large-volume shipments in the third quarter of 2015, Chen said.

While touch-screen notebooks take up 12-13% of all notebooks currently, Chen predicted that the proportion will drastically decrease after Microsoft launches Windows 10 in 2015. Then, vendors will adopt touch functions for 2-in-1 models, Chen said.

Global tablet demand in 2015 will be the same as in 2014 or decline, and white-box vendors will see a large decrease in demand, Chen indicated.
