Intel has had some trouble with its mobile and tablet processor sector due to large and expensive subsidies for manufacturers. To make profits a little more even, Intel now plans to merge its PC chip and mobile chip divisions together. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich has revealed the company's merger plan.
In the third quarter of this year, the mobile sector at Intel saw a loss above $1 billion, and that needs to be corrected. The driving force behind those losses are the large subsidies Intel has been offering to manufacturers just to get the processors onto more devices.
Merging the two sectors together will give Intel a greater ability to pump out chips in each sector, according to Intel. |
