China-based panel maker BOE is shifting its focus away from Samsung Electronics to China-based vendors as Samsung's smartphone sales have recently seen lower-than-expected results.
BOE has acted as the main supplier of entry-level handsets, including smartphone and feature phone applications, but as Samsung's sales have varied and China-based vendors are on the rise, BOE is shifting its focus to Lenovo, Huawei Device, ZTE and Coolpad.
Additionally, BOE has been expanding its LTPS TFT LCD production capacity for mid-range and high-end panels, and hopes its related shipment proportion will increase as well.
The company is focusing primarily on HD panel production as it increases yields, and will further develop Full HD handset panel production in 2015.
Meanwhile, the China government recently announced the nation will further invest in developing LTPS and AMOLED panels as part of the nation's 2014-2016 plans to help support local industries in the panel segment. |
