Xiaomi Technology, which has become the fifth-largest smartphone vendor by virtue of launching inexpensive models in 2014, plans to launch entry-level smartphones for sale at below CNY500 (US$81) in 2015, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

Xiaomi has adopted panels produced by Sharp and Japan Display for high-end smartphones, and panels mainly produced by AU Optronics for mid-range models, the sources said. However, China-based panel maker BOE Technology has entered the supply chain with small-volume shipments, the sources indicated. As BOE has offered lower quotes, it is likely to become a main supplier of panels for use in entry-level Xiaomi smartphones in 2015, the sources said.
