China-based Xiaomi is facing major difficulties in selling its smartphones outside of China despite the company's aggressive actions and the fact that it has been one of the most talked about smartphone brands in the industry, according to a Chinese-language LanjingTMT.com report.
First, Xiaomi's smartphones had recently been banned by India's court from selling in the country due to the infringement of Ericsson's patents. Although the court has temporarily lifted the injunction until the next trial on January 8, 2015, Xiaomi's smartphones still face uncertainty in India.
Second, other smartphone players are likely to start taking legal actions against Xiaomi in non-China countries to prevent the China vendor from expanding into other markets.
Third, Xiaomi only has a limited number of patents and without bargaining chips to negotiate for cross-licensing, the China-based vendor may only be able to resolve lawsuits through paying heavy sums. |
