Samsung Tomorrow announced today that the company has successfully developed the world's first 8 gigabit (Gb) LPDDR4 memory modules. These memory modules, meant to end up inside mobile devices, offer twice the density as compared to previous-generation memory modules. Also, Samsung claims that a 2 GB LPDDR4 module sips 40% lesser power than LPDDR3 modules.

Note that the new LPDDR4 modules are produced using a smaller 20nm manufacturing process. Apart from higher density and better efficiency, they also offer significantly faster data transfer rates (of up to 3.2 Gb/s).

Production of 2 GB and 3 GB modules have already commenced. The first OEM will receive its orders of 4 GB modules in Q1 2015. Expect to see flagships with 4 GB of RAM getting announced at MWC 2015.
