Compal Electronics will obtain ODM orders for 1-2 million 32-, 60- and 70-inch LCD TVs from LG Electronics in 2015, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
Compal has not confirmed the sources' revelations, which nevertheless are supported by Digitimes Research's findings.
Toshiba is currently Compal's largest customer for TV production, outsourcing about 47% of its TV orders to Compal in 2014, said Digitimes Research, adding that Compal's overall TV shipments have been around 4-5 million, with about 90% going to Toshiba.
Some of LG's TV models sold in Taiwan have been outsourced to Qisda, according to Digitimes Research, which has been told during its industry survey that LG will place small-volume orders with Compal for some non-mainstream models in 2015.
Taiwan makers can expect to be responsible for about 38 million OEM TV shipments in 2015, to hold a global share of 16.8%.
In terms of China customers, Taiwan makers' biggest orders are currently coming from Haier, with TPV as the main supplier, but market trends indicate that Vizio will drive the biggest proportion of Taiwan makers' shipments going into 2015.
The sources also said going into 2015 over 40% of TVs sized 50-inch and above sold in the Japan market will be for Ultra HD (4K) units.
