Chipset vendors are expected to focus on rolling out 8-core and 64-bit-enabled solutions for high-end tablets in 2015 as brand tablet vendors are upgrading the hardware specifications of their new models for the new year, according to industry sources.

Mainstream high-end models to be released by brand tablet vendors will include 12-inch models for the business sector, and 8- to10-inch models for education and gaming applications, said the sources.

These high-end tablets are expected to come with high pixel resolutions, high graphics and fast computing capability, and therefore the mainstream chipset solutions have to be upgraded from the current quad-core models to 8-core or 64-bit chips, the sources added.

While Qualcomm, Samsung Electronics and Apple are expected to dominate in the high-end tablet solutions market, other vendors including MediaTek, Spreadtrum Communications, Allwinner Technology, Rockchip Electronics and Intel will compete fiercely for chip orders for entry-level and mid-range tablets, noted the sources.
