Want another taste of Apple's ever-growing popularity? The Cupertino company accounts for more than 51% of all device activations made during Christmas this year. Samsung comes in at 2nd place, accounting for only 17.7% of new device activations, followed by Nokia, Sony and LG at 5.8%, 1.6% and 1.4% respectively. New device activations primarily refer to new devices being registered on app stores.

Analytics company Flurry has provided some useful insight on the growth of Apple's popularity as the Smartphone brand of choice with each passing year. The iPhone 6 was the most popular, or the most commonly activated device. The iPhone 6 Plus made it to the Top 5. An interesting fact; phablet popularity has been on the rise, from a mere 3% of all activations in 2012 to 13% in 2014.
