Powerchip Technology has seen contract orders for specialty DRAM (SDRAM), LCD driver ICs and other non-DRAM products continue to grow, according to a recent report. The company's foundry business is seeing clear order visibility through 2011.
Powerchip is expected to land new orders for driver ICs from Novatek Microelectronics, Raydium Semiconductor and Himax Technologies at year-end 2010. In addition, Powerchip recently secured orders placed by Eon Silicon Solution, a memory IC designer specializing in NOR flash chips.
Powerchip has moved to transform one of its 12-inch DRAM fabs, P1, to mainly providing foundry services. The company runs three 12-inch fabs at present.
Powerchip chairman Frank Huang was quoted in previous reports saying the company is looking to improve its product mix through expanding its foundry business. The DRAM maker currently allocates one-third of its total 12-inch capacity to foundry services.
Renesas Electronics, and niche memory suppliers Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology (ESMT), Etron Technology and Zentel Electronics reportedly are among Powerchip's foundry customers.
