Xiaomi has officially taken the wraps off the Redmi 2, the highly anticipated successor to the Redmi 1S. The Redmi 2 has to fill in the big shoes of its predecessor, which turned out to be a best-seller in its segment. This was mainly due to the incredible bang-for-buck that the Redmi 1S offered, and the same applies to the Redmi 2 as well.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 chipset, coupled with 1 GB of RAM, a slightly faster Adreno 306 GPU, 8 MP rear and 2 MP front cameras, a 2,200 mAh battery and Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS. Most importantly, the Redmi 2 supports both TD-LTE and FDD-LTE, meaning the Redmi 2 can work on China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile's 4G networks out-of-the-box.

One can pre-order the Xiaomi Redmi 2 today for 699 CNY, which is about $112. The first flash sale will take place on January 9.
