China-based TCL Communication Technology Holdings is expected to ship over 100 million handsets in multiple platforms, including Android, Firefox and Windows Phone (WP), in 2015 compared to 65 million units estimated for 2014, according to industry.

Shipments of smartphones will account for 70 million units or 70% of total handset shipments projected for 2015 compared to 40 million units shipped a year earlier.

TCL is currently shipping its handsets under the Alcatel OneTouch brand to overseas markets and ranks as one of the top-two vendors in a number of markets including Mexico, Columbia, Venezuela and Ecuador. Meanwhile, sales of Alcaltel OneTouch handsets have been enjoying brisk sales in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Greece, the sources noted.

Some market watchers have also indicated that TCL may take over the control of Palm brand name from Hewlett-Packard (HP) and ship Palm-branded smartphones for the mid-range to high-end segment.
