There were 389 million smartphones shipped in the China market in 2014, decreasing over 8% on year, the Chinese-language Commercial Times has cited statistics by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) as indicating.

There were 451.5 million handsets shipped in the China market in 2014, slipping by more than 20% on year. Shipments consisted of 60.5 million 2G handsets, dropping on year by 64.4%, 220 million 3G units, dipping 46.1%, and 171 million 4G units.

MIIT expects the number of 4G subscribers in China to rise to 250 million by the end of 2015 and 4G smartphones to be the source of growth in handset shipments in 2015.
