From January-November 2014 the proportion of LCD TVs sized 47-inch and above sold in the Taiwan market reached 50.3%.
Vendors pushed forth Ultra HD units sized 42- to 85-inch, with an emphasis on 55- and 65-inch units. Pricing was a major concern for vendors, with companies such as JVC promoting 65-inch Ultra HD units for under US$2,000.
While the Taiwan TV market is expected to be flat on year in 2015, the average-size LCD TV sold will increase in addition to rising sales of higher-end units, which means vendors will have the opportunity to stay profitable.
Shipments for TVs sized 32-inch meanwhile are expected to decrease from 400,000 in 2012 to 280,000 in 2015, as more consumers switch primarily to 42-, 55- and 65-inch.
Other TV trends in 2015 indicate that TV vendors will also push forth lower-priced 60Hz Ultra HD TVs, and that price competition among panel makers will remain an issue.
Market observers noted that not all TV panel demand in 2014 was for larger sizes. Innolux in fact saw its 2014 TV panel shipments increase 26.7% on year to 50.37 million units due to increasing production for 23.6-inch TVs. |
