Acer expects its smartphone shipments in 2015 to double from 4-5 million units shipped a year earlier, according to company CEO Jason Chen. This means Acer aims to ship about 10 million smartphones in 2015.

Acer's smartphones are now available in 53 countries, more than doubling the company's target of 25 countries set for 2014, Chen noted.

Since global smartphone shipments are expected to reach 1.2 billion units in 2015, Acer's target shipments for the year will account for a mere 0.83% of the global shipments, said industry sources.

Chen is expected to reveal Acer's operation goals for 2015 at its annual suppliers' conference to be held on January 22.
