Storart, a Taiwan-based supplier of eMMC device controller ICs, expects to ship more than one million eMMC controllers a month in 2015 as the company is expanding its market presence in China.
Storart shipped 400,000-500,000 eMMC controllers a month during the second half of 2014. Monthly shipments are set to reach 1.5-2 million units in the first quarter of 2015, buoyed by new orders from China.
Storart has entered commercial production of its SA3601-series eMMC chips with the eMMC 4.51 standard specification. In 2015, the company will be ready to kick off volume production of its S3625-series based on the latest eMMC 5.1 specification.
Storart's eMMC controllers have reportedly been verified by handset-IC vendors such as MediaTek.
Storart currently contracts UMC to manufacture its eMMC controllers, which are being built using 55nm process technology at the foundry's 12-inch fab, according to industry sources. Samsung Electronics, Toshiba, Micron Technology, SanDisk, Intel and SK Hynix are among Storart's NAND flash chip providers, the sources said. |
