KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple sold a whopping 73 million iPhones last quarter. Let me repeat that for you. Apple sold 73 MILLION iPhone handsets in Q4 2014. That's a whopping 43.1% increase year-on-year, and an 85.4% increase compared to the immediate previous quarter, Q3 2014.

The breakdown reveals that the iPhone 6 is the most popular handset, with an estimated 42 million shipments globally. Coming in at second place is the iPhone 6 Plus, with a much less impressive 16 million. People are clearly still buying the iPhone 5S, which sold 9 million units.

For Q1 2015, Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Apple will sell 61.6 million iPhones, which is up 41.4% year-on-year (as compared to the same quarter last year).

Meanwhile, Apple's iPad division hasn't been doing so well. Q4 2014 shipments are 17.8% down year-on-year, standing at 21.4 million. Apple shipped 11 million iPad Air 2 slates. The iPad Mini 3 was a rather poor performer, with only 2.6 million shipments.
