According to the latest report by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, sales of the iPad Mini 2 are expected to overtake that of the iPad Mini 3 in Q1 2015. Introduced recently alongside the iPad Air 2, Apple's new 7.95-inch slate is expensive, and doesn't bring much to the table.
While the iPad Air 2 was a substantial upgrade over the already impressive iPad Air model, the iPad Mini 3 was more of an incremental update. It feels as if Apple neglected the 'Mini' model and didn't give it as much love and attention as it did to the 'Air'.

The processor, body, dimensions, display, etc. are identical on both the iPad Mini 2 and iPad Mini 3. What's new is the fingerprint scanner. But that alone cannot justify a sharp $100 price bump over the 2013 model. This is perhaps why Kuo predicts that people would rather save a hundred dollars and get the older-gen iPad Mini 2, since they aren't losing out on anything significant.
Apple iPad sales, as a whole, are in a slow decline. Year-on-year sales are down by 17.8% for Q4 2014, and Kuo predicts that figure to drop to -38% in Q1 2015. |
