Worldwide tablet shipments are down for the first time since 2010 when the tablet market began its growth spurt. IDC reports tablet and 2-in-1 shipments reached 76.1 million units during the fourth quarter of 2014. That's a 3.2% decline when compared to the fourth quarter of 2013. IDC's data shows the first ever decline in tablet shipments.
Amazon, Apple, and Samsung all reported lower tablet shipments. Amazon's decline was the greatest of all but its competitors weren't in a particularly good situation either. iPad shipments were the highest in the market during the fourth quarter but were still down by 17.8 percent compared to Q4 2013.
Of the top five companies in the tablet sector, only Lenovo reported an increase in tablet shipments. Lenovo shipped 9.1 percent more tablets during the quarter. |
