Lantiq, a company that works in the connected home industry and makes broadband chips, has been acquired by Intel. A deal between the companies was just announced on February 2. Lantiq has been around since 2009 and was originally created when Infineon, a chipmaker in Germany, sold part of its business to Golden State Capital.

The Internet of Things market has grown in importance for Intel and this acquisition will help the company in that market. For Intel, its Internet of Things sector has been growing fast and it reported 19 percent higher revenue at $2.1 billion last year.
