Although Nokia's new N1 tablet has strong demand in China, sources from related upstream component suppliers pointed out that they are still seeing weak orders from the vendor and are unlikely to see any major growth in the near future because of seasonal factors.

Nokia has recently said that it has shipped 20,000 N1 tablets initially and the second batch of shipments are scheduled to be delivered before mid-February and the company has already received orders for over 560,000 units from consumers.

Nokia's N1 is manufactured by Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) with the maker also providing marketing and sales services. The tablet uses Intel's platform and is subsidized by the CPU giant, the sources noted.

The sources said that they only have orders for less than 50,000 units currently and Nokia seems like is trying to adopt a hunger marketing strategy to boost the tablet's recognition in the market.

The N1 is priced at CNY1,599 (US$256) currently, but the sources are concerned that the price point is higher than the mainstream price level at below CNY1,400 and could become a disadvantage for the device in the long term.

In addition, with many international brand vendors including Samsung Electronics having been seriously impacted by local vendors such as Xiaomi, Nokia is likely to see difficult challenges to acquire a position in China's tablet market.
