Taiwan-based handset ODMs Compal Electronics and Inventec are set to ramp their shipments in 2015 after the consolidation of their associated companies Compal Communications and Inventec Appliances, while Arima Communications may see its shipments decline due to a limited number of clients, according to industry sources.

Compal completed the integration of its smart device business group (SDBG) in February 2014 and managed to ramp up shipments of its smart devices, mainly smartphones, to 20 million units in the year.

With major clients, including Microsoft Mobile, HTC, Acer and Lenovo all expecting to release more ODM handset orders in 2015, Compal expects its smart device shipments to reach 40 million units in 2015.

Inventec shipped a total of 50 million handheld devices in 2014, buoyed by orders from Xiaomi Technology. Inventec's shipments of handheld devices are likely to top 60 million units in 2015, with handset shipments accounting for 50 million units, estimated the industry sources.

Inventec is also expected to begin shipping smart thermostats to Nest, an affiliate of Google, shortly, the sources revealed.

Arima Communications is expected to see its smartphone shipments drop to 9-10 million units in 2015 compared to over 10 million units shipped per year during the 2012-2014 period, due mainly to decreasing orders from Sony Mobile Communications, said the sources.
