MediaTek has announced consolidated revenues of NT$17.46 billion (US$555.81 million) for January 2015, up 36% from a year earlier and 2.3% sequentially.

For 2014, MediaTek's consolidated sales increased 56.6% to NT$213.06 billion.

MediaTek will hold its quarterly investors meeting on February 9 to discuss its performance in the fourth quarter of 2014 and business outlook for 2015.

Brisk shipments for 4G smartphones will allow MediaTek to enjoy a particularly strong first quarter, according to market watchers. The fabless IC firm is expected to post a sequential sales decrease of no more than 10% in the first quarter of 2015, said the watchers.

In other news, MediaTek recently introduced its LinkIt Connect 7681 development platform. Based on MediaTek's MT7681 Wi-Fi SoC, the platform provides developers and makers with the tools they need to create simple Wi-Fi enabled IoT devices that can be controlled from smartphones or the Internet.
