Japan's phone market has not been very nice to Samsung. The lack of sales in the market has been so significant that it is now possible the company will leave Japan altogether. Business Korea reports executives feel "continuing the business only causes losses rather than profits."

Samsung has seen losses in the market as well as decreases in overall market share. Despite being one of the largest smartphone companies globally, Samsung comes in sixth in Japan with 4 percent of the market. During the last quarter of 2014, Samsung came back with a 64 percent decline in profits that was caused by declines in multiple markets.

In Japan, Apple has taken over a large portion of the market and even other Android device manufacturers have done well compared to Samsung.

Executives reportedly have not made an official decision as to whether Samsung should keep launching smartphones in Japan.
