Although Sony Mobile Communications, LG Electronics, Motorola Mobility and Asustek Computer have launched Android Wear-based smartwatches, Samsung Electronics, HTC and some China-based makers are likely to release comparable models running on their own platforms initially, according to industry sources.

A lack of efficient ecosystem and supporting environment for Chinese such as a Chinese-language interface, are the main reasons HTC and China's handset makers are developing wearable devices based on in-house platforms, said the sources.

HTC reportedly plans to unveil its first smart wearable device at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona from March 2-5. The smart device is expected to come with a 1.8-inch flexible PMOLED display supporting Android 4.4 and iOS 7.0 and above, said the sources.

In addition to having basic functions including alarm, timer, calendar, SMS notification, music player, sleep and exercise management, HTC's speculated smart device is also expected to link with Under Armour's fitness service, added the sources.

Samsung Electronics currently focuses on developing Tizen-based smartwatches and bracelets, while LG is also expected to release webOS-based smart devices later, the sources noted.
