Powerchip Technology and ProMOS Technologies have both posted sequential revenue gains in August 2010, despite recent reductions in DRAM prices. Powerchip's revenues were up 3.2% from July to NT$8.89 billion (US$277.68 million), while ProMOS saw August revenues grow 9.8% on month to NT$2.41 billion.
Powerchip attributed the sequential revenue growth to ramp-up of the 63nm process, and the sales contributed by the company's contract customers amid rising foundry quotes. Powerchip mainly fulfills contract orders for specialty DRAM (SDRAM) and LCD driver ICs.
Powerchip was quoted in previous reports expressing the company's intention to improve its product mix through expanding its foundry business to cushion the impact from the highly volatile DRAM market.
Powerchip's revenues totaled NT$60.02 billion for the first eight months of 2010, up 371.6% on year.
ProMOS, which began mass production of its DDR3 chips using 63nm process earlier in the third quarter, continued to enjoy sequential revenue growth in August. Revenues soared 173.8% compared to the NT$880 million posted in August 2009.
ProMOS indicated that brisk demand for DDR and DDR2 chips from the consumer electronics sector also contributed to its revenue growth in August, in addition to a ramp-up of 63nm process capacity.
ProMOS's accumulated revenues through August were NT$15.57 billion, a 173.9% jump from 2009.
