Asustek Computer saw net profit of NT$4.509 billion (US$143 million) for the fourth quarter of 2014 decrease by 22.41% on quarter and by 20.77% on year mainly due to loss of NT$713 million from foreign exchange, the company said at an investors conference on February 13.
Notebook and 2-in-1 hybrid models accounted for 56% of fourth-quarter 2014 consolidated revenues, smartphones for 14%, DIY motherboards and graphics cards for 11%, tablets for 8%, and others for 11%. Among regional markets, 44% of the consolidated revenues came from Asia Pacific, 31% from Europe and 25% from North and Latin Americas.
Asustek aims to ship 22 million notebooks and 2-in-1 hybrid notebooks, 3.5 million desktops, 20 million DIY motherboards, 17 million smartphones and 10 million tablets in 2015.
For notebooks and 2-in-1 hybrid notebooks, Asustek will enhance marketing of business-use models in Taiwan, China, the US and other markets in 2015, company CEO Jerry Shen said.
Asustek will launch ZenFone 2 series smartphones in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, China and France in March 2015; in India, Southeast Asia and Italy in April; and in Brazil in June, Shen noted.
While Asustek has so far adopted Intel platforms for all of its smartphones, the company will use Qualcomm-developed application processors for ZenFone 2, Shen indicated.
Asustek expects Qualcomm platforms to account for 40-50% of its smartphones to be shipped in 2015 and Intel's and Taiwan-based MediaTek's IC solutions each for 25-30%, Shen said. |
