Nanya Technology and Inotera Memories have both reported growth in August 2010 sales from the previous month, despite DRAM price corrections in the contract market.
Nanya generated revenues of NT$5.26 billion (US$165 million) in August, up 3.2% from July. Revenues for the first eight months of 2010 totaled NT$40.19 billion, rising 89.5% from a year earlier.
Inotera posted NT$3.21 billion in August revenues, up 1.4% on month. Its 2010 sales through August reached NT$29.14 billion, increasing 46.6% from the same period in 2009.
Nanya in July revealed plans to convert 60-70% of its total 12-inch chip production to Micron Technology's 50nm process in the third quarter, compared to about 50% in the second quarter. With production on 50nm ramping, the company expects its DRAM bit shipments to grow 20% sequentially in the third quarter.
Nanya is also set to expand capacity at its 12-inch chip plant to 50,000 wafer starts a month by the end of 2010, the company was quoted in previous reports.
Inotera has begun shifting to Micron's 50nm design at a rate of 10,000 wafers per month at its 12-inch fab, aiming to convert all of its capacity (130,000 wafers/month) to the node by year-end 2010, according to the company. Bit shipments are expected to increase 15% sequentially in the third quarter, and jump 100% in the fourth.
