India's mobile phone market stood at 64.3 million units in the fourth quarter of 2014, down 11% sequentially and 5% on year, according to IDC.
The decline was largely due to a high channel inventory at the beginning of the quarter, which in turn was caused by the surge witnessed in online sales during the festive season.
Sales of smartphones declined 4% sequentially in the fourth quarter, while the feature phone market plummeted by approximately 14% during the same period. Smartphones formed a healthy 35% of the overall mobile business in the fourth quarter of 2014.
Samsung Electronics maintained its leadership position in the fourth quarter with a 22% share, followed by local brands Micromax at 18% and Intex at 8%. Intex did not feature in the top-five smartphone vendor list until the third quarter of 2014.
Another local brand Lava took the fourth position with a 7% share, and China-based Xiaomi Technology followed with a 4% share. |
