Intel Atom processors are used at a broad range of devices including smartphones, tablets, notebooks and desktops, but are not considered as higher mid-range or high-end chips. Along with its improved performances, Intel plans to rebrand upcoming Atom chips.

The new Atom chips will have x3, x5 and x7 suffixes, basically the same approach as its Core series chips. Atom x3 chips will be used in smartphones and entry-level tablets, the x5 will offer better performances, while the x7 chips are the highest performance in the family. This rebranding makes sense and will make life easier for many people.

It remains unknown when the new names will be applied.
