At Mobile World Congress 2015, Samsung made not one, but two flagship Smartphone announcements. The first was the Galaxy S6, which serves as the successor to the Galaxy S5. That's a really tough task at hand for the Galaxy S6, to make a comeback from the subpar sales figures achieved by the Galaxy S6.

But we are here to talk about Samsung's other flagship, the Galaxy S6 Edge. The Galaxy S6 Edge is not a successor to the Galaxy S5. Rather, it is an experimental device that takes the concept of the Galaxy Note Edge one step further. Instead of a bent display on one edge, the Galaxy S6 Edge has its display bent over both the sides.

I had the good fortune of spending some time with a Galaxy Note Edge, and if my experience is anything to go by, the Galaxy S6 Edge is indeed the more interesting of the two flagships announced by Samsung at MWC 2015.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is to the Galaxy S6, what the Galaxy Note Edge is to the Galaxy Note 4. Internal specifications of the two devices are nearly identical. Thankfully, the Galaxy S6 Edge too has a metal frame and glass front and back. Talking about the specifications, the Galaxy S6 Edge has a 5.1-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) display that's bent over both its edges. That's 577 ppi pixel density, folks. It is protected by Gorilla Glass 4, which also bends over the edges. The home button has a fingerprint sensor embedded in it.

Samsung's new Exynos 7420 chipset, built on the advanced 14nm manufacturing process, runs the show. The Exynos 7420 has got four ARM Cortex A57 cores clocked at 2.1GHz, and four ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.5GHz. This has been paired with 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and the powerful ARM Mali-T760 GPU.

On the rear side of the Galaxy S6 Edge, you have a 16MP ISOCELL camera that has OIS and phase detection autofocus. The rear camera can capture videos in 4K resolution. There's a 5MP front camera, suited for selfies, with 1080p video capture.

Samsung has fitted the Galaxy S6 Edge with UFS 2.0 memory, which is 2.7x times as fast as eMMC 5.0 memory. With the use of "Command Queue" tech, the Galaxy S6 Edge has internal storage that is as fast as SSDs.

Talking about connectivity options, the Galaxy S6 Edge comes with an NFC chip, andMST (Magnetic Secure Transmission), for mobile payments. The Exynos 7420 chiphas a modem that is capable of LTE Cat. 6 speeds. Then there's WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.1, FM Radio, etc.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has three steps of storage offerings - 32GB/64GB/128GB internal storage. Also, the Galaxy S6 Edge comes with a 2600 mAh battery, which is slightly larger than the 2550 mAh unit in the Galaxy S6.

The Galaxy S6 Edge will be available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, and Green Emerald colors. It will launch in 20 markets across the world on April 10th, and additional markets in May. Official pricing is yet to be revealed, but we are sure that the Galaxy S6 Edge will cost more than the Galaxy S6.
