HTC has unveiled its new flagship smartphone the HTC One M9 along with its first smart sports bracelet the HTC Grip and a VR (virtual reality) device the HTC Vive during a pre-MWC 2015 event.
The HTC One M9 is comparable with its predecessor the HTC One M8 in terms of design and hardware specifications, although the CPU and memory parts of the new flagship model have received upgrades.
The HTC One M9 comes with a 5-inch 1080 Full HP Super LCD 3 display, Qualcomm 64-bit 8-core Snapdragon 810 CPU, and a 2,840mAh battery with 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM. It also sports a 20-megapixel BSI CMOS-based rear-facing camera and a 4.08-megapixel UltraPixel F2.0/26.8mm front-end camera.
The new HTC One will be available in the US on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon starting mid-March. It will also be available through HTC.com, Amazon, Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile specialty stores, Costco Wholesale and Target.
However, some market watchers believe that the new flagship may not be able to generate strong sales due to a lack of innovative functionality and design.
The HTC Grip is a GPS-enabled smart fitness tracker powered by UA Record enabling users to track across a range of sports and fitness activities.
The HTC Grip is also compatible with Android and iOS devices, as well as Bluetooth-enabled accessories such as heart-rate monitors, and provides additional performance data under the Under Armour Connected Fitness platform, said the company.
Capable of tracking and recording a variety of workouts (from running and cycling to time spent at the gym), Grip is also waterproof.
Through a strategic partnership with Valve, HTC has also come out with a VR device, the HTC Vive, using Valve's Steam VR tracking and input technologies and HTC's design and engineering capability.
The HTC Vive's 360-degree tracking controller solution allows a full room scale to inspect objects from every angle and interact with surroundings. The headset device also features high-quality graphics, 90 frames per second video and high audio fidelity.
Beta versions of the Vive's developer edition have already generated content from game developers, HTC indicated.
The HTC Vive developer edition will be launched soon, while the consumer edition available by the end of 2015, said the company. |
