MediaTek has announced that consolidated net sales for August 2010 totaled NT$10.04 billion (US$314.78 million), up 21.79% sequentially but down 17.43% on year. For the first eight months of 2010, revenues amounted to NT$80.93 billion, increasing 8.23% from a year earlier.
Orders for WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, smartphone and 2.5G/2.75G chipset solutions from handset makers in China helped push up MediaTek's sales in August, according to industry sources. The incoming orders are expected to last into September, driving MediaTek's revenues for the month to over NT$11 billion, the sources estimated.
With a strong performance in August and estimated robust sales in September, MediaTek is likely to revise upward its guidance for the third quarter, the sources commented. MediaTek predicted earlier that its revenues are expected to drop 8-15% sequentially to NT$25.4-27.5 billion in the third quarter with a gross margin of 51.5-53.5%.
