Competition in Taiwan's smartphone market is set to heat up in the coming quarter as major vendors including Sony Mobile Communications, LG Electronics and HTC all plan to introduce their latest models into the local market soon.

Sony Mobile will initiate the new round of competition by launching its mid-range Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia E4g along with the 10-inch Xperia Z4 Tablet, on March 11, indicated the sources.

LG will launch its new model, the LG AKA, as well as its first wearable device for children, the KizON, also on March 11. The LG AKA sports a 5-inch 1280 by 720 display and a Qualcomm quad-core Snapdragon 400 CPU with 1.5GB RAM and 16GB ROM.

Meanwhile, HTC will launch its new flagship model, the HTC One M9, in cooperation with the top-three local telecom operators on March 12.

Although Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S6 will be available globally from April 10, the Korea-based vendor is expected to start marketing the new flagship model in the local market through a pre-sale booking program from March 13 at the earliest, the sources said.
