At its Thursday event in India, Xiaomi has launched the MiPad tablet, the company's first tablet in the country. Alongside MiPad, which is priced at Rs. 12,999 ($215) the company also announces a successor to the Redmi 1s, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 priced at Rs. 6,999 ($116).

The MiPad is a 7.9-inch tablet with QXGA IPS Retina display that is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It features NVIDIA Tegra K1 SoC clocked at 2.2 GHz alongside 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage and a 6,700 mAh battery. There are an 8 MP rear and a 5 MP front-facing camera, and both cameras have an f2.0 aperture. It runs Android 4.4 KitKat with MiUI out-of-the-box.

The tablet will be exclusively available via Flipkart on March 24 without any registration. At the moment, only the white color option will be available without any further details about the other options.
