Microsoft launched the new Surface 3 tablet today. Not to be confused with the more expensive and powerful Surface Pro 3, the Surface 3 is based on the new Intel Atom x7 processor. Also, unlike the Surface 2 before it, the new Surface 3 runs an x86 version of Windows 8.1 (no Windows RT).
Microsoft Surface 3 specs:
10.8-inch Full HD (1920x1280) 3:2 ClearType display
1.6GHz quad-core Intel Atom x7-Z8700 processor
2GB/4GB RAM
64GB/128GB storage
8MP rear and 3.5MP front cameras
LTE connectivity (optional)
Windows 8.1 64-bit
Battery life rated for 10 hours video-playback
The new Surface 3 has a 14nm Braswell chipset. It's base clock is 1.6GHz, and that goes up to 2.4GHz in Turbo. There's one model with 2GB RAM and 64GB storage, and another with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. Both have a built-in card reader.
The new Surface 3 comes with a stylus, and its display can register 10 touches simultaneously. Microsoft has modified the kickstand. The new one has 3 positions, so it's not as versatile as the Surface Pro 3 kickstand.
The Microsoft Surface 3 base price is $499 for the 2GB WiFi model. The 2GB LTE model will cost $599. Also, the 4GB WiFi model is priced at $599, and the 4GB LTE model will cost $699. WiFi models will begin selling worldwide May 7 onwards. LTE models will ship by June 26th. |
