Apple is going to sell the Apple Watch in a unique way. For some of the units, reservations are required and there are try-on places for the device. Given the more complex system that's being rolled out for the Apple Watch, a release at third-party retailers is unlikely. Carphone Warehouse in the UK says it was denied the ability to sell the Apple Watch.

Sales will only take place through Apple and consumers will need to visit the company's own retail stores to get the device and try it on.

Nontraditional Apple stores are being set up for the Apple Watch in larger department stores around the world but those locations are still owned and operated by Apple.
