Xiaomi Technology aims to sell two million smartphones to mark its five-year anniversary on April 8, one day after Asustek Computer began to market its ZenFone 2 smartphones in China, according to industry sources.

Xiaomi will focus on promoting its pink edition Xiaomi Note and Hongmi 2A. In addition, Xiaomi has also lowered the price of its Xiaomi 4 to CNY1,799 (US$290).

Judging from Xiaomi's previous performance, the vendor is likely to sell 1.6 million smartphones or 80% of its target on April 8, squeezing the sale of ZenFone 2 products, said the sources.

To counter Xiaomi's marketing efforts on April 8, rival vendors Huawei and Meizu will offer promotions. Huawei will put a total of two million units of its Honor 6 Plus smartphones and Honor X2 tablets on sale, while Meizu said it aims to sell CNY200 million worth of products.

Although pre-orders for the ZenFone 2 in China reportedly have surpassed one million units, actual transactions may reach just 300,000 units, due to aggressive marketing efforts launched by Xiaomi, Huawei and Meizu, the sources contended.
