HTC ranked as the number one smartphone vendor in the Taiwan market in 2014, followed by Samsung Electronics, Asustek Computer, Apple and Sony Mobile Communications, according to IDC.

Apple took the top-vendor ranking in the fourth quarter of 2014 on the launch of iPhone 6 devices, but ranked fourth position on a yearly basis.

Sales of handsets in the Taiwan market totaled over 10 million units in 2014, increasing 14% from a year earlier.

Shipments of smartphones reached 9.72 million in 2014, increasing 29% from a year earlier and accounting for 94% of total handset sales in the local market, IDC added.
