MediaTek saw its March revenues soar almost 111% sequentially to more than NT$20 billion (US$642 million). Revenues for the first quarter of 2015 came in line with the company's guidance.
MediaTek has reported consolidated revenues of NT$20.4 billion for March 2015, up 110.95% sequentially. Revenues for March represented growth of 17.05% compared with NT$17.43 billion a year ago.
MediaTek's revenues amounted to NT$47.54 billion for the first quarter of 2015, down 14% on quarter but up 3.3% on year. The first-quarter result also came within the company's guidance range of 45.5-49.9 billion.
The significant growth in MediaTek's March revenues was thanks to mass shipments of the company's 4G LTE chips, according to industry observers. MediaTek started ramping up shipments for new 4G smartphone models set to roll out in the second quarter, said the observers.
Nevertheless, MediaTek will have to post a more than 20% sequential increase in second-quarter revenues to prove its performance is back to normal, the observers noted. The company's first-quarter results were already quite a disappointment, the observers said. |
