In view of better than originally expected pre-orders for Apple Watch, wearables vendors have adjusted their plans to launch smartwatches and wrist bands in an attempt to avoid direct competition, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.

The vendors originally expected Apple Watch to create large global demand for smartwatches which they could share, but now estimate that Apple Watch will dominate the global smartwatch market, leaving little room, the sources indicated.

Vendors can only compete in market segments with prices of below US$299, the sources said. Alternatively, some vendors have shifted to smart wrist bands due to lower technological barriers, production costs and market risks.

Global shipments of smart wearable devices will reach 45.7 million units in 2015, hiking 133.4% on year, and 126 million units in 2019, the sources cited IDC forecast as indicating.
