Xiaomi Technology is likely to rely more on China-based Leadcore Technology for the supply of low-cost chipset solutions for the production of entry-level LTE smartphones as a means to ramp up its shipments in 2015, according to a China-based OFweek.com report.

Xiaomi launched recently its entry-level model, the Hongmi (Red Rice) 2A, which is powered by Leadcore's quad-core L1860C processor and sports 4.7-inch display.

Xiaomi managed to sell 2.11 million units of the Hongmi 2A, priced at CNY499 (US$80) during a promotional session held on April 8 to mark its fifth anniversary.

The adoption of Leadcore's CPUs has enabled Xiaomi to enrich its product portfolio and also to step into the sub-CNY500 segment, said the report.

Xiaomi needs to ramp up shipments of entry-level models such as the Hongmi 2A in order to reach its goal of shipping up to 80-100 million smartphones in 2015, a significant increase from the 65 million units shipped a year earlier, the report added.
