Recode.net reports that Samsung might soon become Qualcomm's foundry of choice for manufacturing its flagship Snapdragon chips. The report says that the Snapdragon 820, which is going to take over the Snapdragon 810 as Qualcomm's flagship chipset for mobile devices in late 2015, will be manufactured in Samsung Foundries.

At present, the Snapdragon 810 is being produced by TSMC. And it is safe to say that S810 chips aren't performing as Qualcomm expected them to. Excessive heat, power usage are issues that are unacceptable from a flagship chipset that is destined to power millions of mobile phones.

Previous reports talked about Snapdragon 820 marking Qualcomm's return to the mobile chipset business with custom ARM-based cores. At present, the Snapdragon 810 makes use of the generic ARM Cortex A57 + Cortex A53 CPU cores.
