Elpida Memory reportedly plans to invest about NT$3 billion (US$95.5 million) to set up an R&D center in Taiwan, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.
The paper cited government officials saying Elpida has applied for a subsidy from Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs to help build the center, without further elaboration.
Elpida has licensed its DRAM process technologies to Powerchip Technology, ProMOS Technologies and Winbond Electronics, in exchange for the Taiwan-based partners' capacity.
