Budget smartphones will soon be released by Sony exclusively for India. A series of phones in the entry-level market will be available in that market as Sony turns its attention away from the high-end. Kenichiro Hibi, managing director at Sony India, even said the phones could be manufactured in India. Hibi explained that these phones need to be launched in India rather than other markets because of how competitive the entry-level market in India is.

Phones have become available for as little as $100 in India through Android One and other companies, including Xiaomi, have released similarly priced devices in the country.
It is already going to be difficult for Sony to gain a significant market share in India and that's the main reason why it will release an exclusive line in the area. CEO Kazuo Kirai alongside Hibi will further discuss Sony's "Made in India" initiative this week in Japan. |
