Huawei aims to ramp up its smartphone shipments to India to two million units in 2015, according to Zhao Ming, president of Huawei's Honor Business Unit. Huawei held a 4% share of the smartphone market in India in the fourth quarter of 2014.
Sales of smartphones in India reach 80-100 million units a year currently, attracting other China-based vendors including Xiaomi Technology, Gionee and Oppo to move into the market, Zhao said.
Combined share of China-based smartphone vendors in India surged to 30% in 2014 from 15% recorded in 2012, Zhao noted, citing data from IDC.
Meanwhile, Huawei ranked as the top smartphone vendor for the first time in China in terms of sales volume with a 13.57% share in March 2015, followed by Apple with 12.37% and Samsung Electronics 10.15%, according to data compiled by GfK.
In terms of sales value, Apple took the number one position in the month with total sales reaching CNY18.923 billion (US$3.05 billion), followed by Samsung at CNY7.217 billion and Huawei CNY6.535 billion, the data showed. |
