Qualcomm has finally spoken out about the widespread rumors concerning overheating with the Snapdragon 810. Reports from early this year said the chip overheated in devices and that resulted in Samsung ditching the Snapdragon 810 for its own Exynos processor. Qualcomm says those reports were entirely false and the 810 never overheated in phones.

Tim McDonough, VP of marketing at Qualcomm, spoke with Forbes about the rumored chip issue. McDonough has pointed a finger at Samsung to explain the rumors since the timing of its rival chip, the Exynon 7420, allowed Samsung to benefit from an attack on Qualcomm. It also justified Samsung's decision to use its own processor in the Galaxy S6.

Early reports also dealt with the 810's problems in the LG G Flex 2 and One M9. Both of those phones compete with Samsung's and rumors about their processors overheating could have helped the company.

There were some overheating problems with the chip in pre-release versions of devices but McDonough says that's to be expected in any early chip setup. What's important is that no Snapdragon 810 ever had a problem in a commercial device.
