Asustek Computer's goal of shipping 25 million smartphones in 2015 remains unchanged despite the weaker than expected shipment performance in the first quarter of the year, according to company CEO Jerry Shen.
Asustek shipped only three million smartphones in the first quarter, affected by a shortage of 4GB memory modules, the company noted.
Asustek is expected to be able to ramp up shipments to 4.8 million units in the second quarter, sources at the handset's supply chain estimated. Thus, the vendor will ship 7.8 million smartphones in the first half of 2015, accounting for 31.2% of its yearly shipment target.
However, Shen indicated that the company will be able to ramp up its shipments to two million units in June and to three million a month in the third quarter as issues in the supply chains have been mostly solved.
Excluding the China market, Asustek will definitely be able to ship 17 million smartphones in 2015, Shen asserted.
In other words, Asustek will count on the sales performance in China to see whether it can reach its shipment goal for the year, commented the industry sources. |
