Samsung is responding to the Apple Watch with a new Gear smartwatch. The watch is referred to as The Next Gear in recently released developer materials. Samsung just came out with an SDK and SamMobile collected information about the watch from the SDK.

The device has 2G data, GPS, a heartbeat monitor, a pressure sensor, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope. It was already reported the device would have a round display and now it appears the watch has a rotating bezel that'll be used to navigate the interface. The Next Watch has a metal frame and a 1.18-inch 360 x 360 display (305 ppi).

Tizen OS, not Android Wear, is used on the device. All Android Wear smartwatches have had touchscreens and a button for navigation. Samsung's next watch stands apart from the competition with the rotating bezel. That bezel lets users scroll through lists, zoom in/out of photos, adjust volume, and input numbers.

Apple included a Digital Crown on the Apple Watch which controls navigation and some of that device's features. This rotating bezel is almost exactly the same thing. Both setups allow users to touch the screen less frequently.
